Somewhere in Singapore, a cicada sings

Summer long chirpings
Curious creature born of dirt
Don’t your bellies hurt?

– A haiku for a favourite insect

Spring: Naivety
Summer: Yearning
Autumn: Fantasy
Winter: Awakening

Someone wise once gave me a Zen saying: ‘Life is in the breath’
The little cicadas must know this, for their Chinese names, 蝉, are a homonym of the word, 禅, Zen.

Some seasons are like a dream. And some dreams are only for a season.
That was what he said.
